Kuching

Back to Malaysia ๐Ÿ™‚
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Saturday 4 February 2012

My 4 days at home flew by in a whirl of washing, shopping, eating nice food and it was soon time to head back to an airport.

Mixing it up this time, Gatwick. It took an hour in a non-moving queue to drop my bags at the check-in desk (it’s not supposed to be TIA anymore!).

After removing all my clothes from my ‘overweight’ checked luggage into my hand luggage (which now weighs a tonne, why does it make any difference where my stuff is?), all set for the 13 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Sunday 5 February 2012

I landed on time at 1pm local time (5am UK time). I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve passed through KL airport in the past couple of years. I’m not stopping by the city this time, just passing through on my way to Borneo.

After killing 4 hours at my usual Starbucks hang out, it was time for my 2 hour flight to Kuching, Sarawak. Despite adding all my clothes back into my bag, it weighed 2kg less!!

Just before we landed they were apologising on the tannoy for landing 10 minutes early – not often you would hear that!

Back in Borneo ๐Ÿ™‚

Kuching is the largest city on the island of Borneo and the capital of the state of Sarawak. Kuching is similar to the Malay word for cat (kucing) – a point that I’m very happy they play upon! It means lots of cat statues and cat souvenirs everywhere ๐Ÿ™‚ cute! During my last two visits to Borneo, I just stayed in the state of Sabah, so this is all new! I was picked up at the airport and drove through the city with a purple/red/pink/blue/orange backdrop as the sun was setting – beautiful welcome back!
