Queenstown

Thursday 8 November 2018

We left Wanaka, in the pouring rain, at 10am.

We were supposed to be doing a hike up a nearby hill – Mount iron, but there was no view – too cloudy and wet. So that got scrapped.

It was a relatively short drive down to queenstown.

We stopped off at a fruit shop. Selling apples, kiwis and oranges. Apparently locally grown.

And then stopped off at the Kawarau bungee bridge. This is the site of the first bungee and the first commercial bungee. Even in the rain, people were still jumping.

We stayed for a while watching people – and others from the bus were signing up. I definitely was not! Far too scared!!

We got into queenstown about 1.30pm.

Time for lunch!

I went to bespoke kitchen. They have a lot of vegan options. I wanted pancakes, but it had been a while since I had lots of vegetables. So I got a vegetable bowl – quinoa, pumpkin, black beans, tomato salsa, hummus and guac. With a ginger latte. It was really good. Best food so far! (Although not hard as the only other food I’ve had has basically been oats and carrots with hummus…!)

I walked around the town for a bit. A few streets of shops, heading away from the lake. And a lot of Chinese people around.

At 6.30pm I was picked up to go to the Onsen hot pools.

It was a 15 minute drive out of the city, to the shotover river.

This is a spa. You get a private pool. With a view over the valley. You have an hour – I thought I would get bored. But it whizzed by. And it was already time to head back to town!
