On the road to Zion…..

Just a few hours from Las Vegas. From Nevada, through Arizona and into Utah. And back into the land of red rocks.
Being Easter weekend, it was packed. Car parks completely full. But luckily the town is well prepared for lots of people – and runs a free shuttle bus to the park entrance. Then inside the park is shuttle only – you cannot take your car during spring and summer months.

We caught the shuttle to the furthest point in the park – Temple of Sinawava. An easy walk along the river, to The Narrows (a slot canyon, with a river running through the bottom of it).

Unprepared to actually walk up The Narrows. The walk was cold. And deep. So stuck to the path.

Back onto the shuttle, then a quick walk around the Emerald pools – not so emerald today.

Ready for the big hike the following day!

Angels Landing day. The scariest hike.
But first, you have to get there. Walking up, and up, and up and up. Around all the winding paths. And the ‘water wiggles’, a series of far-too-many switchbacks.

Then onto ‘the chains’. The section of the hike that requires a permit, to limit the number of people per day.

Walking along the edge of a 400m drop

And onwards….out of Zion….to the next set of rocks….
